Why I Started Kinterra Experiences

Calendars fill up. Notifications never stop. Work demands more than it gives back. Before long, we find ourselves disconnected not just from nature, but from ourselves.

KINTERRA EXPERIENCES

As the years went by, I started taking people backpacking who had never been before. At first they were a little nervous. They'd ask if they were in shape, if they had the right gear, or if they were going to slow everyone down. By the end of the weekend, those same people were already talking about where they wanted to go next.

That happened enough times that I started thinking maybe there are a lot of people who want to experience the outdoors but just need someone to help them take that first step.

That's really where Kinterra Experiences came from.

I don't want it to be just another company that leads trips. There are already plenty of organizations that do that really well. What I want to create is a place where people feel comfortable trying something new, where beginners don't feel out of place, and where the experience is just as important as the destination.

If someone goes home tired, dirty, and already thinking about their next trip, I'll consider that a success.

People have asked me where the idea for Kinterra Experiences came from. The truth is, there wasn't one big moment where I woke up and decided to start an outdoor company. It happened over time.

I've always enjoyed being outside. Some of my best memories have come from backpacking trips with friends, sitting around camp after a long day, and waking up somewhere you can only get to by hiking in. Those are the kinds of experiences that stick with you.
